Synopsis
In the 1970s and 1980s, Old Milwaukee beer was one of the most popular beers in America – and even as late as 1990 it was still known as an enjoyable, value-priced, full-bodied beer. Since the early-90s, though, Old Milwaukee has fallen out of favor amongst American beer drinkers, and is now mostly consumed in rural communities throughout the mid-western United States. In the fall of 2011, actor/comedian Will Ferrell – a self-proclaimed long-time fan of Old Milwaukee beer – went on a road-trip across the Midwest with the creative team from his website and digital studio/production company Funny Or Die to produce a series of TV commercials for Old Milwaukee beer. These TV spots (15 in total) were shot and aired exclusively in the small-town markets of Davenport, Iowa; Terre Haute, Indiana; and Milwaukee, Wisconsin. The spots aired only in the late evening during local commercial breaks on cable TV networks – sandwiched between low-budget spots for local car dealerships and law firms – and were not broadcast nationally or officially released online. In this spot, “Milwaukee Bike Ride,” Will rides his bike along Lake Michigan and throughout downtown Milwaukee, Wisconsin – while singing a new, yet classic-sounding, jingle for Old Milwaukee beer.
