Why is this work relevant for Film Craft?

In this film, the mountain was created by assembling 107 old Renaults car wrecks found all over Argentina. Like a real Tetris game, we had to assemble all these vehicles with attention to shapes, colors and parts of the structure that allows us to create impressive stunts. It was a real challenge to find and gather all these cars from a single country in so little time. And to create a safe structure of 13 meters high with 3 faces where our actor and stuntman could climb.

Please provide any cultural context that would help the Jury understand any cultural, national or regional nuances applicable to this work.

In 1972, society demanded radical change: energy crisis, social liberation, youth activism…

Renault answered with a revolutionary idea: RENAULT 5

In 2024, society demands radical change again: sobriety, energy transition, local manufacturing…

Renault answers with a revolution again: RENAULT 5

With R5, we witness the resurrection of an iconic car: the revolution is back.

Write a short summary of what happens in the film.

To make a revolution, you must leave the past behind. The Climb is a metaphor to say goodbye to the old automotive world and introduce the new one with the new R5. Through an epic journey we will follow a man climbing a gigantic mountain made of old Renault cars. The mountain itself represents what the brand used to be: thermic cars, pollutant, no recycled materials. The difficult ascent illustrates how hard it is to make such a revolution in the industry. But when he finally arrives at the top, he discovers what’s on the other side: the brand new R5 electric, reimagined, redesigned, resourceful.

Background:

The new R5 is the most important launch of Renault for years. The R5 was an iconic model of the brand and the best-selling car in France in the 70’s and 80’s.

The re-launch of such an iconic model is an event, but all was recreated from scratch: 100% electric, using resourceful materials, with a visionary design it is a turning point from the brand. A revolution. And to make a revolution, we must leave the ancient world behind.

With the metaphor of this mountain made of old Renault cars, the quest of the new R5 is represented with poetry and epic visuals.
