OVERVIEW

Description

As TBWA's 40th anniversary approached, we wanted to do something that celebrated the work, the people and the culture that has made us, and our clients, famous. Instead of making a reel, a retrospect website or writing an email from the CEO, we decided to make art out of the defining moments of our history.

Under Lee Clow's mantra for the company, Make it Smart, Make it Beautiful, Have Fun, we developed a film and art installation that celebrated the first 40 years of TBWA.

We collaborated with renowned street artist, WK, to interpret our defining moments onto a visual timeline. We set up an 8 by 36 foot canvas in an empty warehouse and set him loose. What resulted was a short film and an original piece of art.

The film hit the net through our social media channels, spreading across many industry, film and art blogs, including Freshness Magazine, Wooster Collective and Juxtapoz.

We then permanently installed the art piece in our New York headquarters and made a digital version of it, to be printed and displayed in the lobbies of our offices throughout the world.

Everything from the film, the artwork, behind the scenes photos and the music featured in the film was collated into a dedicated website: www.tbwaforty.com.

This is an excellent PR story because we were able to take what is typically an internal email from the CEO into a functional art piece and a short film that reached well beyond the walls of TBWA.

Execution

Under Lee Clow's vision for the company to "Make it smart, make it beautiful and have fun," we chose to celebrate TBWA's 40th anniversary through a film and art installation retrospect. We collaborated with renowned street artist, WK, to interpret the defining moments in TBWA's history in his own unique style, on an 8 by 36 foot visual timeline. The process was filmed and made into a short film that was spread through our social media channels and amongst industry, art and film blogs. The actual art piece was digitized and distributed to all of TBWA's offices throughout the world to be printed and used as art in their office spaces.

In the end, we were able to share our 40-year history with our employees, our clients, new prospects and the general public through a very smart, very beautiful and very fun art project.

Outcome

The film was spread throughout many art, film and industry blogs including Freshness Magazine, Wooster Collective, Juxtapoz, Being Inspired, Stash Magazine, AgencySpy and Artvantgar. The artwork has greeted thousands of current and prospective clients entering many of our offices throughout the world. And the effort has reminded all of TBWA's employees throughout the world what the company has accomplished in its 40 year history, and energized them to "Make it smart, make it beautiful, have fun" for the next 40 years.
