Background

India has never qualified for any of the Football World Cup’s in the history of the sport and being a cricket crazy nation, had always lacked facilities as well. However, the last decade has seen amazing advancements in terms of facilities, following of the sport and viewership numbers across mediums.

adidas wanted to celebrate the sport with Indian fans who follow it without their country being a part of the competition. For Indians, the support for the sport is more important than supporting any country and for them getting an opportunity to play with the official world cup match ball replica was a very big gratification.

Execution

The activity was done to get a “cricket crazy” nation, excited about the biggest sporting event on the planet, The FIFA Football World Cup.

The copy on the hoarding read: “Team up to score a Goal.” And there was a rope which was hanging from the hoarding which was connected to the “O” of the word “Goal”.

It was engineered in a manner that only when a group of individuals, around 10-12, would tug onto the rope, the rope would move the Ball in the hoarding and give away “The Telstar”, The Official World Cup Football, created by adidas.

The execution was to showcase the team spirit that is required in football and to get India excited about the upcoming World Cup.
