Execution
As the production crew started out to cast for the Key Auntie film, it is obvious that the talents should look authentic. From day one, production team decides not to cast ANY professional actors. Apart from Key Auntie herself, all supporting actors are sourced from the small residential communities that are identical to the community that Key Auntie lives in. The talent for Key Auntie herself is a respectable figure among her neighbors and is a helpful person in real life. All supporting actors are assigned roles that are similar to their real personality. In this way, director can capture the real essence of the emotion among the different characters. After production starts, and the shoot attracted by-standers from the community and different characters are also invited to join the cast, making it a rich, authentic and credible performance. Thanks to the actors, the audience is transported to a small living community outside of Shanghai experiencing the daily ups and downs of life there, and particularly, the importance of trust among the neighbors on the guardian of their keys – Key Auntie.
