Description

Scania has always been working on growing road safety. All the modern trucks are equipped with Scania Fleet Management System, allowing to scan and analyze drivers' behavior.

But according to latest statistics, drowsy drivers cause 20% of road accidents.

Scania found a very innovative and effective way to fight this problem - with the help of the most important for every driver people and a mobile app created for them.

Every long haul trucker has an “Angel” back home – someone who loves him and worries about him. Angel Call application connects with FMS. Should the system detect that the person at the wheel is tired, Angel Call uses this data and alerts “Angel” via application. After the signal he or she immediately calls back and keeps him company until he stops driving, or persuades him to gets some sleep. As a result, everyone stays safe.

Execution

For the implementation of our idea we chose the most personal and accessible connection device – mobile phone.

Angel Call application comes together with Scania Fleet Management System, purchased by transportation companies. The companies would give Angel Call access codes to their drivers, who'd pass them to their loved ones.

Then the drivers would start for their next routes, and the Angels - started using the app. As some of them got an alerting message, she called the driver and kept him company until he stopped. Then she’d achieve the 1st Angel badge that she could share on social networks – together with a link to a discount coupon for 1 free month of FMS + Angel Call service usage. Anyone could download the coupon from the Angel Call promo-site and make the most of it by passing it to the head of a transportation company where their driver worked.

Outcome

Most important result of this activation is the increased safety of road users in Russia. But we also strengthened consumer loyalty for Scania and helped position it as a people-oriented corporation. Angel Call was featured on local and national television achieving 2.5 million in earned media.

Our app clearly demonstrated the safety benefits of Scania Fleet Management System – the visits on its product page had increased in 430%. All in all, the campaign managed to reach 25 million people, which is 1/5 of the Russian population.

Among them there is Igor Morzharetto, Member of road traffic safety precautions commission of the Russian Federation Government, who spoke very positively of the project: «My colleagues from social entities took a great interest in the service".

Chief Editor of BBC Top Gear Russia, Vitaly Tishchenko was very excited about the application: «I wish I had the same feature for all my loved ones!»
