Meticulous attention to directorial detail and choices in creating all the real life standard experiences (and equally maddening ones) of your local supermarket stand out in this film. The squeaky shopping cart wheel. Someone diving in to a sniff test on the cantaloupes. Standing in the middle of the isle wondering what you were looking for in the first place with little self awareness. All of this takes place in this very human store, with the one exception being that humans have been replaced by brown and grizzly bears. A seamless blend of animatronic and CG bears balance bear like motion while adding an ever so subtle human movement or expression, yielding a realistic yet humoristic approach. All of these maddening occurrences still play out even amidst a “bear market” where our viewer is urged to not get mad, get E-Trade.
