OVERVIEW

Description

To help Trolli squeeze every drop from NBA all-star James Harden, we transferred his mind into a 13-foot tall cyborg abomination -- a fully interactive robotic basketball hoop dubbed Trolli Beardsketball. From his 80-inch backboard that doubles as an LED-screen face, Beardsketball talks with fans, challenges them to ball, and spits some serious trash talk. With hundreds of randomized clips, Beardsketball gives every fan a unique, one-on-one game experience. The best part of all? The robobeard behemoth is portable, enabling Beardsketball to pop up anywhere and everywhere our audience converges.

Execution

Beardsketball’s 13-foot basketball hoop is meticulously designed to simulate a cyborg version of James Harden -- right down to a net based on his iconic beard. To create unique playthroughs for every fan, we wrote, recorded and animated hundreds of clips of James, displayed on an 80-inch LED screen backboard.

To launch Beardsketball, Trolli took over the concourse of a sold-out Toyota Center, giving nearly 20,000 fans access to a custom-skinned basketball court. After a greeting from James, fans received a randomized shooting challenge, ranging from traditional 3-pointers to granny shots. And custom basketballs flavors like disco, yarn, cube -- or even your own shoes -- kept them on their toes. As a digital keepsake, players used Snapchat Spectacles to record a first-person view of their gameplay. Finally, as a gift from Harden, fans received bags of Trolli candy and some scored Trolli basketballs signed by the Bearded One himself.

Outcome

At the Toyota Center launch party for Beardsketball, Houston Rockets fans had the opportunity to take on the 13-foot cyborg man-hoop for a chance at signed gear and free candy. Social media went nuts, garnering nearly 6.5 million potential impressions through user-generated content. Media coverage added fuel to the fire with 764 mentions online, and 711 unique posts about Beardsketball, creating a trending topic in the Houston area.

Traditional media couldn’t resist Beardsketball either, including SportingNews.com, FoxSports.com, MSN.com and several prominent social media influencers. On a +/-100 scale the experience earned a whopping +67 positive sentiment score online. After the event in Houston, Beardsketball left a 20% sales lift in its wake.
