OVERVIEW

Background

Whooping Cough (Pertussis) was considered by many as a real danger to children and a small problem to adults.

The agency brief was to convince Australian adults that whooping cough was a threat to them, particularly those working within the enclosed confines of an office environment and other public spaces due to the extremely infectious nature of the disease.

Patient facing posters designed for waiting rooms were provided to GP’s Australia-wide by Sanofi Pasteur representatives. These representatives used the posters as a visual aid to explain the dangers of whooping cough in person to doctors, who in-turn, used the posters to talk about the disease to their patients.

Ultimately, the poster was designed to instigate prescriptions of Adacel, Sanofi Pasteur's vaccine that specifically targeted adults.

Execution

Three posters were intricately and specifically designed and illustrated. The enormous detail within each illustration initially drew the viewer towards it, then revealed more and more the longer you looked.

Each poster appeared in GP waiting rooms, a place where most of us desperately look for something to help pass the time.

Before producing the illustrations, an email was sent around to the entire staff of the agency that produced the work, outlining the idea and inviting them to suggest interesting scenerios that could be depicted within the scene. The best were added to the creative team’s list of ideas and shared with the illustrator. He in turn incorporated his own ideas, had them approved and then produced a rough pencil drawing before adding colour.
