We created the “Break Sweat Record” mobile application. This app had the name and finish time of every runner who participated in any major 2013 race. Runners could win instant prizes if in 2014 they beat their own 2013 finish time. This is Gatorade’s promotional program for all of its sponsored races (such as the World’s Best 10k) in Puerto Rico for 2014. We invested in traditional media to advertise the application. But the largest investment was in flyers and promoters who invited runners the day of every race to download the application.
Outcome
1 of every 3 runners at significant races in Puerto Rico downloaded the app and actively engaged with it. Now, with a small investment, we have direct access to thousands and thousands of Gatorade core consumers. Something Gatorade didn’t have before. The app also improved the experience of each race, making it more exciting and rewarding to runners. And most importantly, all of the participants were exposed to our brand and lived our philosophy to 'Win from within'.
