OVERVIEW

Description

Americans for Responsible Solutions created the first ever bulletproof poster to relay their anti-gun violence message. The posters contain provocative headlines stating “This poster protects you because our gun laws don’t” and “In case of gunfire, hide behind this poster.” The posters were shot with a .44 magnum, and the bullet slugs remained embedded into the posters. They were deployed in front of Capital Hill, The Whitehouse, New York and Chicago. The posters directed people to responsiblesolutions.org, urging them to take action by signing a petition and joining their cause to create a safer America through stricter gun laws.

Execution

The posters were printed on half inch thick Kevlar, capable of stopping up to a .44 magnum bullet. Large format flatbed printers with specialized UV inks were utilized to adhere the messages on the Kevlar. Bullets were shot at it to not only prove the effectiveness of their bulletproof claim, but to create a lasting image on the posters to make the public stop and think.

The posters were placed throughout D.C. — where those who make legislation live and work — as well as two of America’s largest cities, New York and Chicago.

Outcome

The campaign was launched in mid April, and a conversation was reignited over the importance of gun laws and regulations. Within the first week it was covered by Business Insider, Yahoo News, Washington Post, and many more—garnering nearly 150 million media impressions. But the real results will come when the United States finally agrees to have centralized regulations that dictate gun laws on a national scale. But by creating these posters and the related film, we are one step closer to having a country and citizens that are safe and secure from those who should not have guns.
