Description

CallMeOut is the Chevrolet smartphone application, powered by peer pressure, that prevents distracted driving.

Developed by teens for teens, CallMeOut taps into the power of positive peer pressure to influence behavior while driving. The teens reasoned that a voice of a friend could personally and positively change behavior. CallMeOut is designed to ride along with you and use the power of positive peer pressure to break the urge to check your phone. If a friend “calls you out,” you’re more likely to break the habit of distracted driving. In fact, Chevrolet believes that this teen innovation can help all drivers of all brands.

Execution

Call Me Out is an audible alert system, smartphone application. It uses the voice of a loved one to personalize the risk of distracted driving. Currently in development to launch the Google Play Store.

The mobile app allows users to leave personalized messages for their friends and loved ones. The technology relies on the phone’s accelerometer to detect when the phone is picked up while traveling at high speeds. It then plays a personalized message (call-out). from a friend or loved one.

The concept also includes peer-to-peer gamification, featuring a community scoreboard and rankings. Users can score points for every mile they drive without touching their phones. The results are featured on a leaderboard that that users can share.

By design, Call Me Out’s scalable platform will enable it to integrate with popular music and navigation apps.

The data we receive from the application will allow us to track real-time behavioral change.

Outcome

Globally, distracted driving is an increasing epidemic and a leading risk factor to millions of road collisions each year. In the United States alone, each day approximately 9 people are killed due to distracted drivers.

As the most connected car company in the world, Chevrolet has the obligation to keep its drivers, as well as all other drivers, safe from distractions. We care about the lives of our drivers and passengers and seek innovative solutions that motivate and inspire others to safeguard themselves and their loved ones from hazards on the road. To succeed, we need to help drivers change their behavior on a global scale.
