Description

When family members become strangers.

The problem is, it is difficult for healthy people to imagine what it feels like to live with dementia, especially the memory loss. In order to bring people to empathize and concern themselves with the topic, we demonstrated the effects of the disease before their very eyes. We showed them how dementia can turn family members into strangers - and how this horrifying experience can happen to anyone.

Execution

A low-budget production video that was seeded Online.

We approached total strangers (middle aged) at a train station as though they were our parents. First they all were sure that this was absolute nonsense – but the longer we insisted this was the truth, there came a heart wrenching point of frustration when they started to doubt themselves. Could they really have forgotten? Could this stranger really be their child?

At this point, the caregivers of Caritas Care jumped in, resolving the situation and explaining to them that what they were feeling at that exact moment was the way thousands of people suffering from dementia feel every day. They also gave them information on the services and facilities they offer, in case they or loved ones (ever) suffer from the disease.

The online video linked back to the Caritas Care website.

Outcome

More than 1.536.800 views through different media channels.

However, it’s not always just about the numbers, but also about the impact:

Due to the sudden increase of public interest in the disease, the public health insurance published their very first Dementia Report in 2016.

The Chamber of Pharmacists launched the project “Dementia-friendly pharmacy”.
