OVERVIEW

Background

Stigma contributes to HIV related deaths. Up to 450,000 HIV patients may die by 2030. Adressing Stigma issues is crucial for Health-Care providers in order to provide life-saving personaliser care and tailored treatment. But professionals often disregard the emotional impact of experienced Stigma when defining treatment strategies. Instead, they often focus only on treating the virus.

Idea

In order for personalised treatment to stop being a dream for patients, experienced HIV Stigma has to become real for doctors. What if they could feel and endure their patients burdens firsthand? We created an immersive patient embodiment experience, to make clinicians forcibly see the very same reality they often overlook, in a way they cannot look away from. Anymore. We impacted them emotionally to improve the way they approach medically.

Strategy

Using medical conferences to draw the attention of specialist doctors to the human side of patients, their day-to-day experiences, is crucial for fostering a holistic understanding of healthcare. By highlighting the personal stories and challenges faced by patients, these conferences serve as platforms to remind healthcare professionals of the importance of empathy and compassion in their practice. Understanding the lived experiences of patients allows doctors to provide more comprehensive and patient-centered care, ultimately improving health outcomes and quality of life.

Execution

Chapters of Stigma is an immersive VR experience featuring over 20 minutes of first person Point of View patient-based narratives. Boosted by enveloping 360° holophonics, we immersed the viewers in both the surrounding and the inner emotions. Over 20 chapters covering a huge series of Stigma experiences, all based on real patient stories. Fear of disclosure | Mistreatment | Rejection I Punishment | Doubt | Shame | Insecurity |Humiliation | Embarrassment | Judgement |Nervousness | Unpredictability | Stress |Anxiety | Dally Keminder ...

Outcome

All the clinicians who underwent the experience committed to acknowledging experienced Stigma with the same importance as the clinical

approach. To deliver treatment strategies that make the experience of living with HIV that it would be. At last.

We initiated a worldwide rally by taking over the biggest professional HIV events, with over 13 localizations completed and in progress: Netherlands, Argentina, Ireland, Switzerland, Australia, France, Poland, Taiwan, Finland, Chile, Hong Kong, Portugal, USA, and Germany, along with 10 congresses and global events.
