OVERVIEW

Description

Although thousands of kilometres apart, there are close and surprising connections between Ireland and Chernobyl. In response to news reports of the disaster of 1986 and it's affects on the lives of those living near Chernobyl, and Irish woman, Adi Roche established Chernobyl Children's International. Since 1986, the charity has brought 24,700 children to stay in Ireland for a month. In the context of Ireland's special interest in Chernobyl, the Irish Examiner commissioned a special report to mark the 30th anniversary of the worst nuclear accident ever, and reported on-the-ground from Chernobyl itself and the surrounding areas.
