Background
Lockheed doesn’t want to be just one of the largest builders of satellites and spacecraft for government and commercial customers — they want to be the drivers of collaborative thought leadership within the industry. Lockheed wanted to spark meaningful conversations about how a global community can explore, challenge and push the limits of space across a variety of missions.
Idea
In order to spark conversation among this very select group of space experts, we created an experience where every touchpoint was a conversation starter. By building a space station-inspired environment and filling it with curated content detailing a very real vision of our near future, we spoke to their professional knowledge and tugged at their personal sense of wonder about the future.
Strategy
We created an immersive experience to share Lockheed Martin’s vision of the year 2050 with a select group of their highest profile clients and industry peers. Everything from simulated smart cities to interactive lunar economy builders to demonstrations of advanced sensors in space was informed by actual Lockheed Martin engineers in order to create an authentic environment and compelling content designed to foster quality conversations.
Execution
Ensuring collaboration was at the forefront, Lockheed customers weren’t just attendees, they were participants. The Destination: Space 2050 vision invited discussion about the future of space in five areas: a “smart” world enabled by ubiquitous communications, extraplanetary operations, space logistics, mission operations command utilizing artificial intelligence and machine learning, and space defense to strengthen 21st Century Security. As soon as attendees entered, they were welcomed into an atmosphere buzzing with possibility and innovation. Interactive moments demonstrated accelerated innovation, while video and other content provoked thought and conversation between Lockheed executives and their customers.
Outcome
While this activation was just the start of potential multi-billion dollar contract discussions, we had some great results including registrations coming in 34% higher than expected, showing the excitement from the Space industry. From a social media perspective, the @LMSpace Twitter handle grew its following by 300% as well as driving 35% of Lockheed Martin’s 2022 Instagram story impressions, from just this single-day event.
