This was a very tricky one take performance piece. So much of the great work of these actors were in the beats between the lines and every moment, every look, pause, gesture had to be finely calibrated. And we needed strong actors who have a visible interior life – where we can really see them processing. Eme Ikwauakor and Tate Ellington were masterful at working subtext and finding the pretty sizable but still believable emotions under the surface. Both of them can do a lot with a little. Both also expertly embodied noir-ish police procedurals like True Detective in small smart ways.
