Description
SAVE ENDANGERED BIRDS WITH THE TWITTER BIRD.
Frequent users of Twitter can donate money using $Cashtag.
Less frequent users and those tired of using social media can donate a Twitter account for a certain period.
In this way, they can also help to spread the word by informing their followers.
Execution
We released a website and an illustrated book depicting birds whose extinction would have a profound effect on our lives.
The site and book were designed using Twitter’s design methods.
Users can participate and give donations from the illustrated books kept in academic institution libraries around the world, as well as from the website.
Each page of the illustrated book features an embedded NFC tag.
This allows donations to be made simply by holding one’s mobile phone up to the book.
Outcome
Our site was recognized by the FWA and AWWWARDS awards, selected by over 200 industry insiders, while the IoT illustrated book is available in over 300 academic institutions, including Cambridge University Library and Harvard University Library. The project’s PR value is estimated at more than $9 million, monetary donations are 32% up on the previous year, and over 120,000 accounts were donated. Furthermore, efforts are being made to build environments for saving endangered birds with donations collected by this project. For example, using donations collected in Japan, we succeeded in slowing the decline of the endangered Blakiston’s Fish-Owl by 25%.
