Background
People think of many brands when it comes to innovative technologies like hybrid or e-mobility. Just not Volkswagen – although being the second largest car manufacturer in the world, offering one of the most complete ranges of e-cars on the market. Almost every Volkswagen is available as hybrid or even all electric. The task was to change the perception of Volkswagen and increase the site traffic of Volkswagen´s e-mobility platform that had generated very little in the way of attention.
Description
We flooded a crowded roundabout in the middle of Hannover with Volkwagen e-mobility vehicles. So the Area got rid of the traffic noise car by car. When everything got really quiet a children´s choir appeared in the middle of the place and performed the Depeche Mode classic „Enjoy the silence“. Precisely timed we enrolled a billboard, telling our message to the surprised and excited people gathering around and watching the spectacle.
Execution
We flooded a roundabout in Hannover with Volkswagen e-vehicles and hybrids. With every car entering the roundabout the location got less noisy. At the moment when the traffic noise was gone, a children’s choir performed the world famous Depeche Mode song „Enjoy the silence“. Hundreds of excited pedestrians experienced live what a future with electric cars could feel like, or rather, sound like. Precisely timed, we unrolled a huge banner with our message. The live event was filmed and published as an online film, filled with emotion. At the end of the film we invited people to receive further information with a simple click. Together with the film this invitation was viewed over 9,000 000 times.
