Description

This is the story of the Cadbury Easter Bunny, who is from Joyville.

At night, life in the suburbs carries on around him as normal. We catch glimpses of our mystery character as he goes about his delivery. In the morning, the children awake to find the Cadbury Easter Bunny has made his delivery. We finally reveal the Cadbury Easter Bunny, before he disappears on his BMX bike back to land of Joyville.

Execution

For this commercial we provided a photoreal version of the Easter Bunny riding a miniature BMX bike while on a mission to deliver eggs in the dead of night.

During animation development our animation crew worked hard to find the right balance between having the bunny move in an appealing, anthropomorphic way, whilst also staying true to the movements of a real bunny. Various anatomical features of the rabbit had to be modified during the rigging process to accommodate the bunny's human-like upright pose on the bike. Conflicts in this area were also addressed on a shot by shot basis to make the performance real well from the camera's point of view.

Animation beats were taken from video footage of real BMX stunt riders and then heavily reworked frame by frame to sell the miniature scale of the Easter Bunny on his tiny bike. All animation on the spot was hand-keyramed.

The final animation phases in the animation pipeline were more technical in nature. The keyframed motion was passed though a custom built deformation system that added secondary motion and muscle jiggle to the rabbit's surface. This step was followed by the cloth simulation process where the waistcoat was physically simulated to both ride on top of the fur and avoid inter-penetrating the moving limbs.
