OVERVIEW

Background

For the first time ever, FIFA chose to adopt an Audio Identity that will become the sound of FIFA World Cups for years to come. The music was created to encapsulate the vitality, joy, glory, scale, prestige, universality, and inclusivity of the FIFA World Cup ’26™ - while also being able to represent the core FIFA brand for other uses. An exhaustive Audio Branding process was used in its creation, inclusive of brand research and creative concepting, to ensure it could fulfill both of these objectives. The goal of the Audio Identity is to inspire an emotional connection in audiences, build brand recall and equity, and become a musical statement that is universally loved and remembered as the musical underscore to the biggest sporting event in the world.

Execution

The FIFA Thematic, 2 minutes long in its original format, begins with a subtle build of ambient sound design, evoking the gathering of crowds in a massive stadium and the anticipation before a match. Next, the piece explodes into a triumphant statement of the FIFA Mnemonic melody, and the game begins. A percussive, modern, and universal groove evokes the quick and dynamic movement of play. Suddenly the energy shifts - we drop back into anticipation, with sound design elements evoking children playing on a neighborhood pitch, recalling every player's journey from humble beginnings to the world stage. Then a build, a sharp intake of breath, and a moment of silence precede the first goal of the game - and the full FIFA theme is played on a rousing ensemble of brass, strings, synthetic elements, percussion, and vocals. From there, we are carried to the climactic conclusion of the match.

The FIFA World Cup 26™ Audio Identity has resonated deeply with audiences worldwide, elevating the profile of the FIFA World Cup and amplifying its cultural relevance.

Its early release empowered broadcasters and sponsors to plan its integration into their campaigns, extending the audio brand's reach to diverse audiences across the globe. The Audio Identity will also forge deeper connections with local audiences through planned customized remixes for each host city, celebrating the unique cultural and musical heritage of each region and driving greater brand affinity and awareness.

Also of note is a collaboration with global superstar DJ, Tiësto, who has created a remix of the track. This collaboration enhances the prestige and visibility of the Audio Identity and further highlights its universal appeal and cultural significance, solidifying its position as a groundbreaking audio branding initiative with far-reaching implications that will become the sound of the biggest sporting event in history.
