Execution

The app has been developed in iOS native language (objective C). It has been optimized for best performance, so users can consult recipes anywhere.

An algorithm has been developed specifically for Foodboard and helps promoting the most popular/ recent posts. The ranking is done using an algorithm, that determines the placing and size of recipe’s thumbnails.

UX was designed to allow the most natural experience: most popular and recent recipes are always promoted on the homepage of the application and the first navigation feature is attitudinal: “In less than 5 minutes”, “Something to impress my guests”, “Surprise me”…

For best ease of use, recipes are organized step-by-steps.

The most complex part of this technology was to always be able to know the ranking (large amount of recipes) and adapt the display in real time. At the same time we had to keep a fluid display and less loading time. The grid display, the algorithm and the ranking process have been specially developed for Foodboard.

The app uses Facebook and Twitter APIs to allow a full connection with the main social networks: connect to your account, share recipes, promote the application and invite friends. The app allows users to display all their Facebook and Twitter friends, and see if they already subscribed to the application or not. It also allows users to send sms to a contact in order to invite him/her.

Foodboard uses the push notification SDK developed by Ezeeworld. This technology allows to send targeted push notifications in case of events that the user can configure : get pushes when a user likes a recipe, when a friend publishes a new recipe, etc.

Outcome

On the long-term, we expect to create a network of passionate amateurs, and establish ‘Foodboard’ as the main axe of Lesieur’s communication, that is, to be our consumer’s little friend in the kitchen.

Further development of the app, and the brand Platform is scheduled for the second quarter of 2013.

Up to date, Foodboard has been downloaded over 50,000 times, and has hundreds of recipes posted.
