Execution

In order to “place” photos on the sky, we’ve invented the flying photo printer by combining light painting, a programmed drone and Hungary’s fastest 4G mobile network.

People could upload their pictures through a mobile-optimized web application. The photo was processed with a custom-developed software that sliced up the picture into 1-pixel columns and transferred the data to the drone.

The light-printed pictures became visible on smartphones using any slow shutter mobile camera application. This way every visitor became an "artist".

The pictures were uploaded to the virtual gallery (www.egigaleria.hu), where it motivated others to add their own art.

Outcome

Thanks to the great share value, the campaign reached every 2nd Hungarian Facebook user. Additionally, the campaign resulted in several cover stories in mainstream online media and in primetime TV news – in an organic way, with a minimum of organized PR activity.

The combination of smartphones and the flying printer had a magical effect: it inspired creativity, pride, tributes to heroes, and even marriage proposals.
