Description
Cancer is a taboo subject in Qatar to the extent that families hide the patients from sight and do not discuss it within the family household. Awareness & understanding is very low.
Titled "Generosity is its Own Reward' the film tells the story of a young Qatari boy's special relationship with his grandfather and how children see / hear everything. The young boy & his brother come up with the idea of collecting money from their relatives during the Muslim religious holiday of Eid Al-Fitar. It is traditional to dress up in new clothes (thobes) and give young children money, specifically brand new notes which the children iron to look new, something that every Qatari has experienced. The little boy and his brother donate these funds to the Qatar Cancer Society rather than themselves. It shows the lengths that a loving grandson will go in his efforts to support his grandfather's fight against Cancer. The film is intended to create awareness & is full of unique and very specific cultural nuances / idiosyncrasies. It is a story of family, of Qatari values and the innocence of youth. The soundtrack was written by renowned Qatari musician, Fahad Al Kubaisi.
