Description

The idea for “God’s Plan” was giving back. The song deals with the concept of miracles manifesting in Drake’s life and the music video expanded on this notion, seeing Drake spawning miracles in the lives of those in need. This was executed through using the music video’s budget — instead of making something big and flashy, Drake used the budget to give back in a variety of set-ups — scholarships, donations, cars, cash giveaways, etc…

Execution

The video was shot in Miami from February 4th to February 7th. We were given the task of producing the music video a week away from the shoot date. This shoot required extensive planning in a short amount of time in order to prepare all the moving parts — casting, locations, crew, and scheduling. Casting was one of the most important elements of the production, as we needed to ensure that all of the recipients of the charitable deeds were deserving candidates. In order to do so we worked alongside charitable organizations, NGOs, community centers and youth centers to find the right people. In addition to the demanding production restraints, post-production was just as challenging, as the video was delivered to the client a week after wrapping the shoot.

Outcome

The outcome of the video has been extremely favorable. Since its release on February 16th, it has been viewed over 300M times between Drake’s VEVO page and the OVO Sound page. The video has spawned memes and parodies, most notably the video by Jimmy Kimmel. “God’s Plan” has held the #1 position on the Billboard Hot 100 for 8 weeks straight which we hope has been sustained by the success of the video.
