Overview

Background

Our farmers spend long hours under the sun, exposed to the risk of skin cancer, and 25% of the potatoes produced go to waste. Considering these two insights, we created a potato-based sunscreen to protect the people who harvest our potatoes to generate brand social responsibility.

Idea

Lay's utilized potato waste from its production to create a sunscreen that protects its workers from intense sun exposure, effectively addressing two issues considering the lifestyle of its employees and the powerful sunlight they are exposed to due to the country's geographical location.

Strategy

Distribute the sunscreen among the workers who cultivate potatoes and spend long hours under the sun.

Execution

From April to May 2023, along with brigades, we visited approximately 43 farmers' unions and distributed our Harkay sunscreen made from potato waste discarded during production to protect our people's skin.

Outcome

9.3% reduction of potato waste

43 farmers' unions participated.
