Description

We’ve created an app that leveraged a familiar tool, Instagram, to get youths back on track with diabetes.

The approach leverages existing patient behaviours to create new healthy habits. We did not tell young patients what to do. Rather we gave them a tool to start tracking their condition themselves.

Execution

The app maps the blood level readings to images from Instagram creating an immediate visual diary for a patient’s condition. As such, it plays a significant role for doctors when they need to assess patients progress and compliance over time.

Outcome

The solution has been tested in a year-and-a-half long trial with 200 patients at Istanbul University. The results have exceeded expectations. Treatment compliance increased by 54%

Blood sugar levels decreased by 27%. Complication forecasts decreased by 37%
