Background
• Situation: A collaborative limited series podcast experience between Fran of Hey Fran Hey and The Friend Zone, Chef Jade of All Jades and Dr. Tykeia (Keia) Robinson of Gettin’ Grown and Target Black Beyond Measure to utilise the tools of intersectionality to illuminate the rich nuanced complexity of the Black Women experience.
• Brief: 3x 45-60 minute episodes to raise awareness and drive engagement for Target Black Beyond Measure program via Illuminating Intersectionality sponsorship
• Objectives: Help foster open discussions and engagement among diverse audiences regarding the complexities of Black Womanhood and the HBCU experience + Achieve 70,000 listens per episode
Execution
There are three episodes of Illuminating Intersectionality and each one is led by one of the hosts.
Episode 1 Illuminating the Experiences and Contributions of Black Women at HBCU’s was led by Dr Tykeia Robinson. Using the tools and tenets of intersectionality Keia presents a rich overview and leads a discussion of the experiences and contributions of Black women at HBCUS. With Keia leading the way, she, Jade and Fran explore the impact of gender politics, heteronormativity, and respectability politics as tools of white supremacy at HBCUS and discuss implications for women throughout history and into the future.
Exploring Black Identity and the Experiences of Foreign Born Black Students at HBCU’s, Episode 2, hosted by Fran highlights the experiences of foreign born Black students, while attending American Universities. The episode explores the impact of the intersections of race and ethnicity - how it impacts the HBCU experience. Fran discusses with Jade and

• Impact: Comments and conversations on platforms like Youtube and X highlighted the value of the series and the cultural nuance that sits alongside the HBCU experience for Black women and folks. The knowledge, storytelling power and experiences of the hosts elevated the discussion and the audience responded positively to the series.
