Description
IPL is a 56 days long festival of the game of cricket. To Indians it is as big as Super bowl is to Americans.
Since for 56 days people will be seeing only cricket, the idea in this commercial is to not show cricket but instead show the festive & mood associated with it. In the TVC we show rival supporters devising ingenious ways to spread the colors of their team over others. Across the nation in various cities and towns the supporters of the nine teams try to convert the opposition into their own colors, often coloring up the bystanders.
Execution
The budget for the film was only USD 500,000 and the film had to be delivered within 16 days from the time the client gave the go ahead to the production house.
Given the above-mentioned realities, traveling to different cities or computer graphics were NOT POSSIBLE at all.
This film has been shot in only three days in Mumbai. We pre-constructed additional architecture is some streets so that they matched the city of Calcutta. As soon as we finished shooting that scene the unit would move away to shoot other sequences and in 6 hours we would pull down all the additional architecture from this street to reveal the original Mumbai architecture so that the unit could come back in the evening and shoot it as a different city. Two cameras were used because some of the scenes like the 450 red balloons falling down, could be done only once since it takes a full day to rig up those many balloons at that height.
Water based colors were chosen so that we could quickly wash it all and get the actors ready for second take. Since the nine cricket teams depicted in the film were finally unable to deliver us their own T-shirts to us so fast, we printed 1200 T-shirts in two days so that after each take we could just throw in a 100 odd T- shirts into the crowd and announce “Those who have color on themselves remove your T-shirt, wash your face and hands, get into the new T-shirt and come back to your mark…. immediately
