OVERVIEW

Background

Everyone has a connection to the classic board game Monopoly in some way. The competition and excitement of becoming a real estate tycoon often reminds people of their childhood, when they would play during family game night. For its latest Monopoly Scratchers campaign, CA Lottery taps into the nostalgia that this game brings to so many and introduces it back into their lives through the campaign messaging of “Play For Real.”

Execution

The whimsical spot opens on a woman standing at a bus stop. When she decides to play her Monopoly Scratchers ticket, she hears a dog bark and notices that the dog has a striking resemblance to the Monopoly dog game token. She follows the dog and begins to see Monopoly icons all around her – GO sign, Electric Company, Park Place, Free Parking, traffic cop, Mr. Monopoly, red hotel, railroad, Marvin Gardens – ultimately landing at her dream home, on a stunning cliff on the California coastline.
