Description
Infant and child mortality in Togo is very high. As early as the pregnancy, mothers have to fight for their unborn child’s chances of survival. That's why SOS Children's Villages has set up mother-child clinics to help them.SOS Children's Villages briefed us to develop a campaign that will support these clinics financially. So we created 'unborn artists'. Unborn Belgian children helping out unborn African children.
Execution
Belgian unborn children created genuine works of art with one aim: selling these in aid of African unborn children.
How? Using basic painters' equipment such as paint, brushes & a canvas, pregnant women could make real paintings using their belly; the movements of the baby resulted in the movement of the brush on the canvas. This 'unborn art' was exhibited in a real art gallery (artist Isabelle de Borchgrave) and the works were auctioned via a campaign site.People could place a bid on the works or could buy a do-it-yourself pack which is also a great pregnancy gift.
Outcome
32 works of unborn art were placed online for auction; all of them were sold within a week. The first week 322 do-it-yourself-kits were ordered and the largest network of hospitals in Belgium will distribute the kits via their gynaecologists (510 touchpoints). But most of all, thanks to these first gifts, we were already able to appoint 1 midwife in Togo.
