Simply by scanning the QR code printed on the receipt with the camera of a mobile phone, the customer can then access straight to Napster Japan and listen to music. “A song for new couples,” “a song that reminds you of the sea,” “a song to regain confidence,” “a song that sets you free;” The promotion allowed customers to experience the “Power of Music”, straight after they left Tower Records shops.
Outcome
Record companies soon flooded Tower Records with offers to use the receipt as a tool for promoting their artists.
It became a brand new revenue model for Tower Records, pulling in 10 million yen every week.
