OVERVIEW

Background

Violence against women continues to be a huge issue in the Philippines. However, a lot of these cases go unreported because of a “culture of silence” where women would rather be quiet instead of feeling ashamed.

But in a time where using social media has become a Filipino pastime, how can we encourage women to speak up about such an important topic?

Execution

We got the government to provide a hotline for victims to report their abuse. 117 became the first unified number to handle all the cases.

The number was promoted online through a makeup tutorial video that encouraged women to speak up instead of hiding.

Lastly, we created a Facebook page that served as a support group for women. Here, they were able to share their stories and get information that could save their lives.
