Description
In this spot we see the tension between two stepsisters as one moves in to the other's house and they have to live under the same roof. The green shoots of friendship only start to grow, when they're outside for the first time.
Execution
The Persil Ant Farm was used as an educational tool and attraction in zoos and city farms throughout the UK. Places visited by urban families and schools when they want to experience the natural world.
We targeted this group because statistics show that inner city children spend more time indoors, so we wanted to inspire them to get outside more.
A trip to the zoo or farm is a special event and a memory in the making. This meant that people were carrying cameras and taking pictures of their children with the ant farm. These photographs will be shared and looked back up on, reiterating Persil’s message (dirt is good) in the future.
The children were amazed to discover that something so interesting and exciting could be found in their own back garden. This inspired the families to get outside, get dirty and rediscover their environment.
Outcome
The Ant Farm created a massive stir, with children jostling to get a chance to count the ants, find the queen, and investigate the fascinating lives of one of our most prevalent neighbors.
They learnt interesting facts about ants along the way, spending high levels of dwell time (children and parents were interacting with the Persil poster for more than 5 minutes at a time).
Since the first installation, many other organisations in the UK have requested to feature our ant farm. Therefore, the Persil Ant Farm will be touring city farms and zoos throughout the summer.
