Description
Bang Bang, a self-promotion book by Ashish Khazanchi, is a collection of poems written in a graphically designed form. The writer wanted to share his work with the public as well as create awareness about this form of writing through an exhibition that would showcase the book.
Execution
Inserts that were actually replicated pages from the book itself were used as a device to generate curiosity. The book's style of writing and illustration is informal and unconfined and attracts an audience of young readers who are open to experimenting. The inserts acted like a preview of the book and introduced the style of writing to the reader through a real experience of it.The insert was put in newspapers and youth supplements, targeting mainly young readers, aged between 25-35, who usually have a strong influence on their peers when it comes to music, literature, cinema and other elements of popular culture.
Outcome
The inserts created a lot of curiosity about the book. And generated crowds at the exhibition of the book. The youth instantly gravitated to it. The self-published book and the informality of the writing struck a chord with the youth. The exhibition got rave reviews and resulted in people from different parts of the city buying their own copy. After the first print run of 500 copies, two more print runs of 1000 copies were undertaken on request by book-stores. All two thousand copies were sold out within a week of release.
