OVERVIEW

Background

Let’s face it, the only thing new of the new Renault Captur was a minor facelift (a small change to the car front) compared to the previous one. It has nothing really unique to offer except one thing vs competitors: it consumes less energy. And that’s a really good reason to buy it. But this argument alone would not be enough a generation ago. Because reasons to buy a car have changed. And sometimes, it’s for the best.

Execution

The overall craftsmanship of the film was essential to make the old commercial as credible as possible. Every aspect, from set design to location, cinematography to acting, was meticulously planned during pre-production so that the audience could believe they were actually watching old commercials. The music, of course, also had to match perfectly with the era. Additionally, we had to create a new orchestration for the moment when we transition back to the modern era.

Outcome

For those in that are born after 1999, let us tell you something. Up until the circa 1995 car ads were insane. In France particularly they made ludicrous claims: that cars would make you look cooler, sexier, more successful. Of course, in 2024 we all know that none of this is true. Culturally the car buyer has changed, and with this commercial Renault clearly states that it's changed with them.
