OVERVIEW

Background

The Swiss sports retailer Ochsner Sport is known for its cool sports equipment. But most people don't know that you can also get your bike serviced at Ochsner Sport. This fact needed to be changed. With an idea without a big budget.

Idea

The creative idea was to make Switzerland's most hopeless bikes rideable again. Namely, those that lie at the bottom of Swiss rivers. And to turn them into a limited edition that cannot be bought, but only auctioned. In turn, 100% of the proceeds will go to Swiss water protection.

Strategy

The target group was defined as Swiss citizens between 16 and 55 . A target group that cares about sustainability and actively cycles.

Execution

The bikes were taken out of various Swiss rivers by divers in November 2023.

The bikes were then strictly checked to ensure that there would be no safety issues later on.

From December to January, the bikes were worked on. This involved replacing the components, exposing the frames and coating them with a special paint. The paint ensures that the bikes do not rust any further. But retain the rusty look from the water.

In March 2024, the Riverbikes were launched with a promotional film on social media and YouTube. All advertising material led to a landing page where you could bid for the bikes.

Outcome

The Riverbikes had a huge impact (by Swiss standards). The landing page was viewed 112489 times. 6283 bids were placed. And bookings for bike services at Ochsner Sport increased by +48% compared to the previous year. And we were able to pull over 100 bikes out of the rivers.
