OVERVIEW

Description

"Salt InThe Blood" explores the creation of pro surfer Tom Carroll’s first ever photography exhibition, "1980-1985".

The world knows Carroll as the surfer, the two-time world champion, the legend. What they don’t know is that while leading the charge of surfing’s rapid move to the world stage of professional sport, when surfers became gods and the spirit of counter-culture was as palpable as the salt in the air, Carroll kept a camera in-hand and took photographs. Lots of photographs.

In the film, Carroll unearths the prolific collection of images taken as he “made sense of the world” on tour, unpacking thousands of film-slides boxed and buried under a blanket of dust under his home for over 40 years.

The photographs are rediscovered and an untold story comes to light; memories surface and emotions are faced as we begin to understand why we take photographs and what they mean to us.
