Description
In this commercial we see a guy living all the bad experiences one can have when driving a car into town. Heavy traffic, difficulties finding a parking spot and so on. The guy is accompanied by a little puppet. The resemblance is striking: the puppet is the honest and childish version of the same guy and it symbolizes the recognizable inner stress you have when driving your car in the city center. The puppet shows all emotions and gets close to a mental breakdown when it sees the price of the parking ticket. At the end the pay off advises us to leave our stress at home and take public transport to go into town. Instead of your car.
Execution
A marionette was animated on location by three puppet handlers. One
animator suspended him from above, one operated the mouth and the third animated the hands of the puppet. The animators stayed very close to the puppet, animating him with short sticks in order to have maximum control over the puppet’s movements. A scissor-like
system allowed the animator to push a handle in the back of the head to open and close the puppet’s mouth.
The handlers were painted out in post-production.
