OVERVIEW

Background

The archival footage edit was such a success the client strongly considered not using any of the live action footage before the shoot was complete. Regardless, the editor built a new live action + archival edit that included unscripted moments and additional new found footage pulled by the editor to further the concept, originally created by the editor. The final edit exemplifies all of the work brought by the editor: music ideation, concept ideation, characters, story, found footage, archival footage, sound design, music editing of all sound including multiple instruments and sources. The editor was vital to all creative aspects of this piece.

Execution

The editor was given Usher’s entire archives of videos and was tasked to build an archival edit from this work. This was done prior to any shoot. The editor brought a film archivist on the project to also comb the internet for footage. The editor briefed the archivist and they continued to both pull footage while the editor built an edit. From experimenting with this edit, editor then worked the director to come up with a shooting plan for the live action shoot. The editor played a vital role in concepting the vignettes to be shot for the final piece. Simultaneously, the editor created the idea for the tapestry of the music and worked hand in hand with music creative director at Apple. This included briefing the marching band, gospel choir, and multiple other performers.
