Description
Cigarettes butts are the number one littered item on the planet. To make matters worse, they’re made of plastic that never biodegrades, and they leach toxic chemicals into the environment right down into our very own water supply.
Trillions of cigarette butts flow down into the Earth’s waterways where marine life mistakes them for food. If that doesn’t kill them, the arsenic and lead they ingest will.
To combat this issue, the Surfrider Foundation, a community of everyday people who passionately protect our oceans and beaches, are driven to de-normalize the act of flicking cigarettes and to get people thinking twice about their behavior.
The campaign, entitled “Snuffed Out Marine Life,” seeks to raise awareness and open dialogue of this behavior change through arresting visuals that directly connect cigarette butt litter to the wildlife we care about.
