Description

We had to promote the SICO paint product line and its plethora of colours at Réno-DépôtReno-Depot. So in order to do this, we developed the Live Swatches campaign : an app that could pair any colours detected by a mobile device with an actual SICO paint colour in real- time and a bus shelter with a custom built sensor that also paired colours captured in real time with a colour from SICO’s paint line. This way, consumers had all 1,800 SICO paint colours in front of them or in the palm of their hands.

Execution

The concept is simple: any colour picked up by the sensor is paired in real time with a colour from SICO paint line. That way, users can find paint colour inspiration as they wait for the bus. Plus, with the app, they can have fun exploring a world of colours in real time. How does it work? When the camera takes a picture, a sample of the pixels is taken and paired with closest SICO paint colour. The bus shelter was launched the week of October 3, 2016, and the app went online on December 19, 2016, and is still up and running.

Outcome

This use of real-time data was launched on via a successful app on both the SICO and Réno-DépôtReno-Depot’s social media platforms, that accumulated accumulating over 50,000 fans. The app will also be promoted later this year through print advertising, pre-rolls, and social media communication.

For the bus shelter, the location was key. We wanted a high traffic area where the sensor would pick up a variety of colours. With about 15,500 daily users, the bus shelter we found was the perfect location
