Background

"Let's Go to the Fish Market" is an educational TV program made by SBS to rediscover the rich Japanese fish food culture. But, with all of the other entertainment programs available, it was not easy to get attention for the fish program. It needed to be something different challenge to get attention to the program and also raise the viewing rate.

Description

Do children believe it if salmon fillets are swimming?

Fish has been playing a very important role in Japanese culture. But, fish-eating habit and interest in fish has been declining. There even are rumors that urban children believe salmon is swimming in the shape of fillets. We developed robotic salmon fillets and experimented to get to the bottom of this urban legend. This is a social experiment done at an aquarium in Japan to promote an upcoming TV program learning about fish.

Execution

We made a robotic salmon fillet made of four tiny, rubber - covered motors

which reproduced the delicate movements of a fish. With the help of an

aquarium, we conducted a social experiment and released a film.
