Execution

The 20-minute journey into the world of chocolate we created is based on a complex ride system, whose individual elements link to each other perfectly. To achieve this, we needed to build the 'Swiss Chocolate Adventure' twice: First, we created a real-time 3D simulation of the entire ride, including the correct technical specifications of the vehicles, all media elements, movement sequences, as well as the built scenery.

By making it possible to virtually experience the ride from different perspectives, the timing and control system could be precisely matched to each other in order to create the best possible visitor experience. The interfaces between different technical components such as backdrop controls and automatic doors, video and sound, were also tested in the simulation.

In addition, the simulation was used as a communication tool between all parties involved in the conception, planning and implementation of the ride. It was the basis of our presentations before the client as well as the planning tool for our technical partners.

Only after the ride was planned and tested in the real-time 3D simulation, it was built again, this time physically.

Outcome

From the tropical forest to the chocolate box: The 'Swiss Chocolate Adventure' at the Swiss Museum of Transport takes visitors on a dramaturgically staged journey into the world of chocolate.

They board one of the ten people-movers that navigate through the exhibition. The twenty-minute ride follows a choreographed visitor routing, providing diverse information in an entertaining way. Large projections of protagonists from the chocolate industry in the main exhibition space alternate with themed islands that offer immersive experiences.

An intermezzo interrupts the chronological journey and makes the exhibition space resemble a large chocolate roller through which the people-movers glide in a joint choreography. A collective experience is created.

The 'Swiss Chocolate Adventure' exhibition is precisely scenographed and remains in the visitors' minds as a visual, acoustic and flavourful experience. It is the latest attraction at the Swiss Museum of Transport, Switzerland's most visited museum. And it is the perfect place for international tourists to learn about the Swiss chocolate tradition, manufacture and logistics.
