Description

Instead of just showing examples of existing films, we set out to actually create new work using each technique. By showing the "making of" the audience were able to learn the process of film making by watching behind the scenes and seeing the masters at work. We also had to overcome the low budget, so everything had to be done in a DIY fashion. All the ideas had to be simple yet strong to be a quick entertaining example of the technique shown in the episode.

Execution

We made a creative education TV show “Techne: The Visual Workshop.” Every episode focuses on one filming technique, and challenges artists to create a new film using that technique. Following the same concept, 3 program IDs were made per episode, using the same technique that was showcased in the show. When the theme was “Stop Motion,” we created 3 different program IDs using stop motion as its filming technique. So far we have created 27 IDs for 9 episodes. The video shows some of the selected ID pieces along with the Opening & Ending title sequences that we made.

Outcome

The show along with its IDs were well recepted by our audience. As a first of its kind show that focuses on film techniques, the show is now being used around Japan in Art schools as a textbook to filming, During the airing of all 9 episodes, the #techne got in the Top 10 twitter trending topic.
