Description

To ensure this launch had the gravitas of the whisky event of a lifetime our creative focussed on the idea of a liquid legacy. Our approach was to create focus through less being more. The handcrafted heritage of the Balvenie gave us permission to focus on handcrafting every element from the invitations to the printed material. The press pack, event invitation and itinerary, and hardback book were all brought together in a discreetly branded bag. The substrates and colours of the printed elements reflect the tactile qualities of the bottle labels.

Execution

Rather than create individual tasting notes, we designed and produced a hardback book, which documents the story of David Charles Stewart at The Balvenie distillery, and includes detailed notes on each chapter and each bottle. Brass and walnut cues were taken from the DCS Compendium packaging and used consistently across all the launch materials to the display stands at the launch of event at The Wallace Collection in London. We produced transparent graphic banners and suspended them on the display stands which allowed the visitors to view the DCS bottles at any angle. Photographic banners were produced on a transparent material and suspended on the display stands. We created brass event invites and used brass foils across all of the stationary items including personalised letters, itineraries, envelopes, luggage tags and document folders. To echo the handmade feels of the packaging details we commissioned a calligrapher to hand-write details.

Outcome

The Balvenie DCS collection launch at the Wallace collection was a great success – we helped to create an utterly unique event that really was a once in a lifetime whisky experience for our Single malt connoisseurs. Attendance was over-subscribed and we received national coverage and attention for the event.
