Background
Tooth decay in children in the Southern rural regions of Thailand is up to 80%.
It is important that even the children’s milk teeth are well taken care of. But this fact was not known to the parents.
We dig deeper and found that for the Southerners, TV programs and other mainstream media that show in central dialect can’t relate to them. Their ways of living is still deeply rooted with Thai shadow puppet plays where the whole family spent their nights out together enjoying the storytelling that are sung in verses and with their Southern dialect.
So we decided to be there and talk to them the way they wanted to hear.
Idea
Thai Health Promotion Foundation presents… “The Dentist Prince”
The shadow puppet play, specially created to entertain while also educating about the importance of dental hygiene.
The story is about the Land that Never Smiles, where the children had not smiled in years.
One day, a young Prince discovered that the children were suffering from tooth decay so to help them, the prince and his doctor came to teach the parents how to brush their children’s teeth, to finally bring the smiles back to the kingdom.
After the performance, a team of dental specialists came to offer free toothbrushes and make sure the parents and children learnt the importance of how to brush their teeth properly.
