Description

You have a little bit of pleasure beating someone arriving first at the coffee machine.You viscerally want to accelerate feeling someone walking next to you in the street. We've all been in the starting block waiting for the guy to go green…

We love to compete ! It's in our DNA.

So when launching the Renault Sport version of the Everyday Megane, the Megane RS, we wanted to celebrate THE EVERYDAY RACE of life over the racetrack. This is the RS spirit. We ran a race on Facebook LIVE where you could bet on the everyday life race between pedestrians! Pedestrians who did not even know they were participating, With a LIVE sportscaster and hidden cameras we turned the everyday act of crossing the road into an social and realtime event !

Directly on mobile, our community and every viewer just had to choose which racer had the RS SPIRIT.

Execution

Using a live sportscaster we selected various racers filmed with hidden cameras and added a branded number tag to their image. Players could then select which racer they wanted to win by typing their selected pedestrian's number into the comment stream of the live for the chance to win RenaultSport Formula1 VIP tickets and merchandise. You then simply watched to see who had the RS spirit to win the game as we augmented the race with all the trimmings of high performance racing such as weather data and our 'players' performance data.

Throughout the 15min Facebook LIVE experience we interacted with our players in the comment stream, notified winners and gave details of the car. We even surprised all the pedestrians (and our LIVE audience) with a mass drive pass of Renault Megane RS cars (of course whilst the red man was showing). The execution has currently run in France.

Outcome

In just 15 minutes of Facebook LIVE streaming we celebrated 4 race winners on the street as 124,000 people raced along live on their phones and so far we’ve reached 9.5 million Everyday racers in France with our teaser films and detailed product ads; not only promoting the Renault sport Megane but also make the rest of Renault Megane range a lot less ordinary everyday to consumers.
