The film is in many ways both a parable and a character study. And so it was scored with an original composition meant not only to parallel the narrative, but to reflect the vastly different internal state of its protagonist.??The opening half of the soundtrack is spare and repetitive, reflecting l the character’s rigid, self-destructive behaviors while also evoking an underlying mood of anxiety and discontent building within him. This anxiety is only heightened as the music builds in pace, becoming increasingly discorchadant, and finally, breaking down, just as the character does. ??In the second half of the film however, the music begins to re-emerge, slowly rebuilding as something different - warmer, more open. As the character returns to the world, and begins to open up emotionally, so too does the music building in an emotional intensity that underscores, without overwhelming, the characters outpouring of feeling in the end.
