OVERVIEW

Background

For the launch of our new Titanium iPhone 15 Pro, we wanted to document the genesis of this space-grade material, its birth from a supernova. As the rock travels through space and time, slicing through rings of planets along the way, we see the sculpting of a rare and otherworldly material only to be honed and crafted to it’s peak form once arriving at earth.

Many scores and genres could have worked well on this journey - beautiful coasting ballads, frenetic visceral builds, curious narrative score, cheeky sparse trap beats, and so on - but nothing felt as right as when we laid in Yat-Kha’s 1994 Tuvan throat-singing punk rock song with a pulse made by a sword-sharpening slice.

Execution

"Through the endless black steppe

Bay pacer wil flash.

The long hairs of my beauty

Are fluttering like in the wind."

Wall Street Journal organically released an article praising the use saying “Karangailyg Kara Hovaa (Dyngyldai) wasn’t exactly an obvious choice…There might not be a more unlikely partnership in tech history than the pairing of Albert Kuvezin [frontman of Yat-Kha] and Apple.”

It was a pleasure working with Albert and Global Music Centre on this project. Many thanks to them for their work to document music, commission field recordings, and spread traditional music around the world.
